The week of volunteering begins in Huancayo. Upon arrival, the altitude ( 10,692.26 ft) smacks me with a 3 day headache. Neto and Eli, who run the program, are welcoming. They have a super cute daughter, and four other volunteers also staying on the compound. Everyone is friendly, and we are taken to have scrumptious pollo a la brasa for dinner. So far, so good. D and I feel old because the other volunteers are under 25. One of them is only four years older than my cat. Frightening.
